A little about the Founder
Blue Water BBS Systems (Home of DiveNet) was started in the
later part of 1991. We started the BBS running on a Compaq
Portable Plus, 8088 with a 10 Meg Hard Drive. We were using
the BBS Software RemoteAccess in the beginning and for only a
very brief period, when we saw for the first time the Wildcat
BBS Software, and then spent the next 9 months setting up and
customizing it to suit our needs. As time went on we purchased
an 80 Meg Hard Drive to replace the 10. With the space available
we were able to increase our Files availablity, On-Line games and
message base. At this time we were still not affiliated with Any
form of Echo Mail Networks, no room again.
It was the 3rd week of August that I was presented a NEW Megaputer
by my brother, and was it something. I had been waiting for this
system for months. The BBS is Now operating on a 486/33 CPU, with
8 Meg of RAM, a 660 Meg SCSI Hard Drive (with room for more), a
CD ROM Drive, a 250 Meg Tape Backup system, SVGA Graphics w/1 Meg RAM
and SVGA Monitor w/.28 Dot Pitch. You Talk about a system...and I'm
going to add another CD ROM Drive soon.
In mid September I was browsing through several Echos and found
only one for Scuba Diving, it seemed active enough but I felt we
needed more voice and different areas of Diving to get involved in.
Thus the Idea of DiveNet was Born. From then till now I spent alot
of time wondering how this Network could be started, so what you are
seeing here is THE first steps in providing a DiveNet Echo Mail
System.
Now you say what makes me qualified enough to put something of this
magnitude together? Well I'll tell ya, Nothing! However, I have been
involved with computers since 1973 as a Programmer and Operator of IBM
Main Frames. Have been working with PC's since 1985. As for Diving I
have been an active Scuba Instructor since 1982, and before that had
managed a couple of Dive Shops in Shreveport and Lafayette, La. Plus I
have been diving since I was 18, making it over 20 years of diving
experience. For the last 5 years I have been teaching through Shops
in Miami, Florida as an independent Instructor. I've completed my PADI
IDC Staff Instructor Certification June 1992 and am working towards my
Master Instructor Rating.
My BBS is the Only Diver Oriented BBS in the State of Florida and as far
as I know I'm only one of seven in the USA.
I also have the desire to provide Divers and others information that
they can use to gain more in the sport of Diving.
If you are interested in becoming part of the DiveNet Family and helping
to expand Internationally, Then take the time to look over the complete
package, fill out the forms and mail them to the address below or call
Blue Water BBS Systems and upload the forms (in .ZIP Format) into the
area designated "SYSOP - Private File Area".
Thank you for your time in reviewing this package.
